Xrio UBM can be deployed as a high availability solution.  The recommended architecture is designed to ensure continuous performance of your UBM environment during any planned period of downtime or in the unlikely event of a UBM failure.

High Availability

Deploying a high Availability UBM infrastructure provides the benefits of:

  • Instant automatic device failover, in the case of hardware failure of a UBM device
  • Ability to provide service level guarantee’s for network uptime
  • Allows continuation of services for planned downtime as each device can work independently from the other.
  • Protection for WAN/VPN connectivity from unpredictable events such as power failure, etc.
  • Ensure availability of business critical applications if the primary device fails

UBM High Availability is beneficial for any of the below events:

Xrio UBM high availability was designed to ensure that any hardware related downtime does not impact your Internet and/or VPN connectivity.

High Availability requires the installation of two UBM appliances at the premises to ensure business continuity. One is configured as the active unit and the other as the passive unit which remains in active-standby mode, ready at any time to be activated in to active mode. The passive unit mirrors the active unit and therefore is configured in the exact same way so in the event it is required to switch to active it is instantly ready, up to date and available .

In the event of the active unit failing, the redundant unit will automatically become active and provide WAN/VPN connectivity.

High availability works through VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol), advertisement packets are sent out to VRRP-specific IP multicast addresses. The passive device assumes the active devices responsibilities when these messages have not been heard from for a pre-defined time interval.

In addition, High Availability, Xrio UBM also provides failover and failback to ensure uptime for your WAN and VPN connectivity if a connection failure occurs.

Xrio UBM includes a range of features designed to resiliency and be implemented as part of your business continuity strategy:

  • Failover/Failback – Reduce downtime and achieve continuous Internet connectivity in the event of an Internet outage with UBM’s unique failover and failback features.
  • Business Continuity – Implement Xrio UBM as part of your business continuity plan to ensure maximum uptime for WAN and VPN.
  • Disaster Recovery – Lease UBM to resume Internet connectivity or increase Internet speed after a disaster event to ensure quick recovery.
  • Offsite Backup - Maintaining offsite copies of backups gives you the ability to restart your critical data on a different server in case the primary site is inoperable.
