Transparent Deployment with Multiple Links

The UBM delivers a Unified Bandwidth Management platform that allows businesses to bring together all their WAN circuits in order to control and optimise their bandwidth and connectivity. It is accepted that the UBM is usually a 'retro-fit' into an existing network and caters for this requirement by working transparently. There is no change to the existing topology, we simply break the cable between the access router and corporate firewall and insert the UBM in between. This circuit is known as the transparent link and all traffic flows in and out 'untouched' meaning services such as VPN and E-mail are unaffected. Now the UBM is installed we can provision additional circuits and build policies to define how they are used. Based on 4 circuits, the following is a common deployment scenario.

  1. The transparent link is kept as-is to serve existing inbound services, such as Email and Intranet/web mail access.
  2. Circuits 2 and 3 are bonded together to provide increased bandwidth and resilience for the VPN back to the central site.
  3. Circuit 4 is dedicated for general web traffic ensuring this low priority traffic does not affect the other 'critical services'.

Moreover, through the use of our powerful Policy Based Routing engine, each circuit can be configured to backup the other, ensuring complete resilience should any link fail. See the failover groups use case.

Circuit Bonding

The UBM can be configured to run in various configurations including whilst working transparently:

  • Bonded IPVPN
  • IPSEC VPN Bonding
  • Link Load Balancing
  • DNS Load Balancing

The UBM brings a high level of flexibility in order to fit into any network whilst delivering several high end features.
